Why You Should Teach Your Kids About the 10 Promised Paradise

We’ve all heard of them but why should you take the time to teach your kids about the 10 Promised Paradise individually?  What makes them so special and significant.  Let’s explore these topics and more!

The Best of the Companions

All the Companions of the Prophet have a great status with Allah, the Messenger and with the true believers. The Qur’an and Sunnah is full of praise of them.  For example:

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allâh, And those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and falling down prostrate (in prayer), seeking Bounty from Allâh and (His) Good Pleasure. The mark of them (i.e. of their Faith) is on their faces (foreheads) from the traces of prostration (during prayers). This is their description in the Taurât (Torah). But their description in the Injeel (Gospel) is like a (sown) seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong, and becomes thick, and it stands straight on its stem, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allâh has promised those among them who believe (i.e. all those who follow Islâmic Monotheism, the religion of Prophet Muhammad till the Day of Resurrection) and do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward (i.e. Paradise).

(Al Fath:29)

‘The best generation is my generation then those that follow them then those that follow them.’

Sahih al-Bukhari 3650

Our kids should be familiar with the Companions and the 10 Promised Paradise in particular as the best of the Companions (May Allah be pleased with them).  They contain the 4 rightly guided Caliphs and all the 10 have the reward of those who fought at Badr.  Their special status means they deserve to be studied closely.

Great Islamic Role Models

The 10 Promised Paradise are wonderful Islamic role models for our kids.  We know that Allah is pleased with them and has honoured them with the promise of Jannah.  As our ultimate aim is to reach Jannah, they are perfect examples to follow.  There are so many great instances of loyalty, bravery, generosity, humility, dedication, fairness and piety for kids (and us!) to learn from and copy.

The Foundation of Our Deen

Our deen is comprised of the Qur’an and Sunnah.  The sunnah was transmitted to us by the Companions and as such every single hadith chain begins with a Companion.  They are all trustworthy and their path and understanding of the sunnah is key to remaining on the correct path.

‘The Jews were divided into seventy-one sects, the Christians were divided into seventy-two sects, my Ummah will be divided into seventy-three sects, all of them will be in the fire except for one. It was said ‘O Messenger of Allah, who are they?’ He said: Those who are upon what I am upon and my Companions’

Sunan Ibn Majah 3992

When you teach your kids about the 10 Promised Paradise they learn all about the special character of those close to the Messenger (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace).  It helps them to understand how our deen was preserved and the trustworthy nature of the Companions.

Connection to the Sunnah

Another reason why you should teach your kids about the 10 promised Paradise is that it connects them to the Sunnah.  They learn about narrators of hadith, learn about events from the seerah and become familiar with the people mentioned in the ahadith.  They feel a connection to the Companions and begin to see how they were related.  They learn for instance that Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) was the cousin of the Prophet (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace) and was the nephew of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).

Protection Against Incorrect and False Beliefs

Sadly, there are misguided groups and people who attack the Companions of the Prophet and particularly the four rightly guided Caliphs.  When you teach your kids about the 10 promised Paradise you can help protect your kids from these false beliefs.  The correct knowledge enables them to identify false information.  With Allah’s aid, they will understand the correct position of these noble Companions and will not be confused by any lies against them.

The Importance of Steadfastness

There are so many lessons from the lives of the 10 Promised Paradise.  As they were all early believers who were Muslim during the very difficult Makkan period, they all displayed incredible steadfastness.  They stuck to their deen during oppression and difficult circumstances when they suffered for their faith.  In this modern time, when there are a variety of challenges to Muslims trying to stick to the Qur’an and Sunnah the 10 Promised Paradise provide wonderful examples to Muslim kids.
