There are so many things you want to teach your kids, why should you prioritise teaching about the Prophets of Islam? The Importance of Tawheed and Unity of Message
All of the Prophets of Islam called their people to same thing, tawheed. They told them to worship Allah alone without ascribing any partners to him. The Prophets gave the good news of Jannah, warned them from the hellfire and informed them of the Day of Judgement. They lived in different times, places and circumstances but their call was the same. Kids can hear this message reinforced while learning about each of the Prophets. The fact the Prophets were sent by Allah with the same message shows children how important this message must be.
Belief in the Prophets is a Pillar of Eemaan
Belief in the Prophets is a pillar of our eeman as made clear in hadith Jibreel. When the angel Jibreel (alayhi asalaam) said “Inform me about Iman (faith).” He (the Prophet) answered, “It is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in fate (qadar), both in its good and in its evil aspects.” As all Muslims must believe in the Prophets of Islam they need to know about them and their importance.
Connection to the Qur’an
The Qur’an is full of stories of the Prophets of Islam and several surahs are named after them. Understanding their stories provides kids with a connection to the Qur’an. It also helps engage them while reading when the stories are familiar to them.
The Stories Appeal to Kids of All Ages
It can be tricky teaching Islamic Studies to a group of mixed-aged or ability learners. Some concepts are simply too advanced for younger kids. However teaching about the Islamic Prophets is a brilliant way of engaging all your learners. The narrative of the stories is instantly appealing and kids can learn and observe different benefits from the same story.
The Prophets of Islam are Ideal Role Models
It’s no secret that kids love to emulate and copy behaviour. The Prophets of Islam provide wonderful examples for them to follow. Whenever a child is faced with a trial or difficulty they can find an example in the stories of the prophets of how to deal with it correctly. Deal patiently with sickness like Ayoub, or people’s doubts like Nuh, or face your fears like Musa (peace be upon them) or death of loved ones and many other trials like Muhammad (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace).
Timeless Life Lessons
No one is tested more than the Prophets and Messengers. Whatever you are going through you can find a Prophet that was tested greatly with the same. They persevered, stayed upon the truth regardless of the opinions of the people and remembered Allah in all circumstances. These lessons are for all Muslims and a gift for us to pass onto our kids.
